SCAN Health Plan Appoints Cheryl Meronk as Community Outreach Manager

(LONG BEACH, CA – October 17, 2011) — SCAN Health Plan, one of California’s fastest-growing health plans for people with Medicare, has appointed Cheryl Meronk as community outreach manager in Southern California. In this role Meronk will work with local community organizations to provide health education and information and work to identify gaps in community resources.

A dedicated advocate for seniors, Meronk has worked for nearly ten years in providing services to older adults, most recently as the CEO for Council on Aging-Orange County and as program director for their Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP). As a former registered HICAP counselor, she brings to SCAN an excellent understanding of Medicare, HMOs, Medigap, Long-Term Care and other health insurance issues.

“We are proud to have someone with Cheryl’s experience and education serving in this role,” said Lena Perelman, director of community outreach of SCAN Health Plan. “She brings a unique understanding of the positive impact community-based partnerships can have on the lives of seniors and will be a great asset to the communities she serves for SCAN.”

Meronk holds a Master of Science in gerontology from California State University, Fullerton, and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from University of California at Irvine.

As a not-for-profit health plan, SCAN’s community outreach efforts include the SCAN Van mobile resource center for seniors and caregivers, “Trading Ages” senior sensitivity program, SCAN Senior Resource Centers in California and Arizona, Classroom in the Community health education, charitable giving, and many other initiatives.

For more than 30 years, SCAN Health Plan has been focusing on the unique needs of seniors and is now the country’s fourth largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plan. The company currently has nearly 130,000 members in California and Arizona. Further information may be obtained at scanhealthplan.com.
