SCAN Health Plan Arizona Exclaims, “Women, It’s Your Time for
Preventive Screenings” During National Women’s Health Week
(PHOENIX – May 11, 2011) — Consistent with the theme for National Women’s Health Week, “It’s Your Time,” SCAN Health Plan Arizona encourages women to take the time and make sure their preventive health screenings are up to date.
“Many women spend a great deal of time and energy caring for others but sometimes forget to focus on their own health,” said SCAN Health Plan Arizona’s CEO Elizabeth Russell. “In honor of National Women’s Health Week, we’d like women to confirm that they are current on their wellness exams, screening tests and immunizations.”
The right schedule of wellness exams and screening tests can vary based on age, overall health, family history and other risk factors. SCAN has developed these general guidelines for women age 50 and older.
- Wellness exam to measure height, weight, blood pressure and general physical health
- Clinical breast exam
- Fecal occult blood test
- Skin cancer evaluation
- Annual flu shot
Every other year:
- Hearing and vision assessment
Every three years:
During an annual check-up, women should confirm with their physicians whether or not they need the following tests and immunizations:
- Thyroid screening
- Bone mass density
- Pelvic exam
- Diphtheria-tetanus vaccine
- Pneumococcus vaccine
- Rubella vaccine
- Measles vaccine
- Hepatitis B vaccine
- Herpes zoster vaccine to prevent shingles
“All women should check with their primary care physicians to determine which health screenings they need based on their own health, family history and risk factors,” added Russell.
