Need help with a bill from a specialist? No problem! Here are some pointers.
Q: I received a bill from one of my specialists, but I don’t think I have to pay anything. What can I do?
A: First, make sure it’s a bill and not a statement. If it is a bill you think you shouldn’t have to pay, call SCAN Member Services at 1-800-559-3500 (TTY: 711) for help sorting out the issue.
Just so you know, your SCAN plan has a maximum out-of-pocket amount (known as a MOOP). This is the most you would need to pay out of pocket for covered medical services during the year.
We recommend checking your Evidence of Coverage (EOC) document for your benefits and MOOP anytime you’re going to a healthcare provider other than your primary care doctor. That way, you will know what to expect. And remember to always present your SCAN ID card whenever you receive services. This lets the provider know you’re a SCAN member and to bill SCAN directly.
