Amidst its Rapid Growth, Leading Medicare Advantage Plan Has Also Maintained
4.5-Star
Rating for Two Consecutive Years
LONG BEACH, Calif.—Jan. 31, 2019—SCAN Health Plan® , one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage health plans, announced that it has surpassed the 200,000 membership mark in California, representing a near 20 percent five-year increase. In addition to its substantial growth, SCAN has maintained for two years in a row its 4.5-star rating out of a possible five stars from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), indicating the value and quality of SCAN’s Medicare Advantage plans. SCAN was also named one of the best insurance companies for Medicare Advantage for 2019 by U.S. News & World Report, and received a 90 percent member satisfaction rating as reported in the 2019 Medicare & You Handbook.
“We’re excited to celebrate reaching 200,000 SCAN Health Plan members. We’ve been serving seniors for more than 40 years—including as a Medicare health plan for 35 of those years—so this milestone is a true reflection of our company’s mission and commitment to keeping seniors healthy and independent,” said Bill Roth, president of SCAN Health Plan. “Together, our growth and our 4.5 star rating are testament to the plan member experience, and to the efforts of our employees and provider partners.”
The news of SCAN’s membership growth comes as policymakers and legislators continue to validate the importance of expanded benefits and additional choices for seniors. As a result of newly enhanced Medicare flexibility, many SCAN plans now offer in-home care visits after a hospital or skilled nursing facility stay for things like bathing, dressing and meal deliveries and telehealth “virtual doctor visits.” Most SCAN members also have access to reduced out-of pocket costs, no co-pays when ordering the most commonly used prescriptions via the mail-order pharmacy option, and enhanced transportation services.
Roth adds, “Our primary goal is and will always be to deliver programs and services of real value to our members. We look forward to serving our members, welcoming new ones, and building upon our mission and success in 2019.”
