Be ready to renew your Medi-Cal coverage

This page has information on how to keep your Medi-Cal benefits.

Why now?

Before the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE), Medi-Cal would review your information every year to make sure you still qualified for benefits. Special rules were put in place during the COVID-19 PHE to allow more people to have and keep Medi-Cal benefits. However, now that those rules have ended, Medi-Cal will be looking at all current Medi-Cal recipients to decide who still qualifies.

What you should do now…

  1. Make sure your contact information is up to date. Make sure your county Medi-Cal office has your current name, mailing address, phone number, and email address. If your information has changed, contact your county office or update it online at benefitscal.com. If you are in San Diego County go to mybenefitsCalWIN.org.
  2. Keep an eye on your mail for a renewal packet. The county will mail you a letter about your Medi-Cal eligibility. You may need to complete a renewal form. If you’re sent a renewal form, submit your information by mail, phone, in person, or online, so you don’t lose your coverage.
  3. Set up an online account with BenefitsCal. If you don’t already have an online account, create one at benefitscal.com (or mybenefitsCalWIN.org if you are in San Diego County). Then sign up to get text or email alerts about your case. If you need help setting up your account, call your local county office.
  4. If you get a renewal form, complete it prior to the due date listed on your renewal form.
This is very important. If you get a renewal form in the mail, you must complete it. You can submit your form by mail, phone, in person, or online. This will help avoid a gap in your Medi-Cal coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions about Medi-Cal renewal
