Dental Allowance Benefit

A dental allowance benefit gives you more freedom when you need dental care.

Get started and find a dentist by contacting Delta Dental at 1-855-830-6583 (TTY: 711).

All SCAN plans provide the medically needed dental services covered by Original Medicare.

Some SCAN plans offer a Dental Allowance Benefit that puts you in the driver’s seat. You have a set amount—an allowance—to spend on dental care for the year. You can see any dentist from the Delta Dental Medicare Advantage/SCAN EPO network, which includes many popular local dentists.

With SCAN’s Dental Allowance Benefit:

  • You pay $0 for all procedures up to your allowance amount
  • There is no waiting period before you can see a dentist
  • Preventive care does not count toward your allowance.
  • For other care, reduced rates apply toward your allowance

Check your Evidence of Coverage to see exactly what your plan includes.

Frequently asked questions about the dental allowance

Q: I have a Dental Allowance plan through SCAN. Can I go to any Delta Dental dentist?

With a dental allowance, you don’t need to choose a primary dentist for your care. Instead, you can see any provider in Delta Dental’s extensive EPO network at any time. A print directory is available upon request. Contact a Delta representative to request yours: 1-855-830-6583 (TTY: 711).

Q. How is my Dental Allowance calculated?

Your allowance is determined by the amount Delta Dental pays the dentist. Once your allowance amount is met, your Dental Allowance Benefit is exhausted. You will have to pay out of pocket for any additional dental care you may need the rest of the year.

Q. Should I ask for a treatment plan from my dentist?

Yes. It’s important to get a treatment plan before getting any services from a dentist. When you go in for an initial evaluation, you can request a treatment plan. The plan should include the codes and costs of the services being recommended.

Because your allowance amount is limited, you have to pay out of pocket for anything past the limit. If you’re concerned about the cost, ask your dentist to list the services in order of importance. That way, you can plan your expenses.

If you have questions about treatment plans, call Delta Dental at 1-855-830-6583 (TTY: 711).
