LONG BEACH, Calif.—Dec. 10, 2019—SCAN Health Plan®, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plans, today announced it has provided its senior sensitivity training, Trading Ages, to all firefighters in the City of Long Beach. Engaging 400 participants over 21 sessions, this marks the first time the program has been delivered on such a large scale and the first time the City is offering the training to all Long Beach firefighters.

LONG BEACH, Calif.—Sept. 10, 2019—SCAN Health Plan®, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage health plans, today announced that it has awarded $50,000 in scholarships to 10 students enrolled in the Long Beach State University College of Health and Human Services. The scholarship, which provides each recipient $5,000, is designed to cover tuition for one semester, and includes a service component to encourage immersive experiences working with and caring for older adults.

LONG BEACH, Calif.—Sept. 4, 2019—SCAN Health Plan®,  one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage health plans, today announced results from its national survey on aging in place. Responses from 1,000 U.S. adults ages 65 and older indicate that 62% believe most seniors they know are unlikely to be able to safely age in place. Having adequate financial resources, coupled with friends or family nearby, top the list of factors seniors consider when evaluating where they will grow old.

LONG BEACH, Calif.—Aug. 14, 2019—SCAN Health Plan®, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage health plans, today announced the recent publication of the results from their Insights program—an innovative approach to delivering behavioral health services to seniors and their caregivers—in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. Offered by Independence at Home, a SCAN community service, Insights provides evaluation and management services for certain behavioral health conditions in home by licensed clinical social workers and marriage family therapists, at no cost, and in the patient’s primary language; therefore, reducing the barriers to mental healthcare common in this population.
