FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SCAN ALLIED PLAN
Q. How does my $0 acupuncture benefit work?
Your acupuncture benefit was designed specifically for the SCAN Allied plan. You have a $0 copay and unlimited visits per year for medically necessary acupuncture treatments through the Astrana network.
The Astrana network of acupuncturists includes many bilingual providers. That way you can communicate your needs comfortably.
Use your medical group’s directory to look for an acupuncture provider near you:
Note that the unlimited acupuncture benefit for the SCAN Allied plan is different from the acupuncture/chiropractor benefit available in other SCAN plans. Be sure to use an acupuncture provider who’s part of your medical group to enjoy the $0 unlimited benefit.

Your allowance can be used for fitness memberships, personal training, classes and more. Check your Evidence of Coverage for more details about what is included and your Flexible Allowance amount.

Q. How does my Dental Allowance work?
Your SCAN Allied plan comes with a $2,000 Dental Allowance to spend on dental services each year. Here’s how it works:
- No more primary dentist—you can choose any dentist from Delta Dental’s extensive EPO network, and you can go to any of these dentists at any time.
- You pay $0 for all procedures up to your allowance amount. That means no copays at all until you’ve hit your $2,000 allowance.
- After you hit your allowance, your coverage ends. You’ll pay the full cost of any other dental care.
- Preventive care does not count toward your allowance. So keep up with your exams and cleanings!
- For other services, reduced rates apply toward your allowance.
You’ll be responsible for all dental costs after your allowance is spent, so you will need to keep track of expenses. Ask your dentist for a treatment plan before you get any work done, so you can prioritize the most needed care first.
Q. Where can I use my Dental Allowance?
You can use your allowance at any dental office in Delta Dental’s extensive EPO network.
Q. What coverage options do I have when I travel out of the country?
You’re covered for emergency and urgent care services wherever you travel. If you’re outside of the U.S. and its territories, SCAN will reimburse you at Original Medicare reimbursement rates for the covered services you received. This link will take you to the forms you’ll need.
We also recommend that you buy medical travel insurance to help you pay for any unforeseen medical incidents while traveling outside of the country. This type of policy can protect you from paying for services not covered by your SCAN plan while traveling.
Be sure to take care of any routine or preventive care while you’re still at home—routine and preventive care are not covered while traveling.
Q. What if I need help getting to appointments? Are transportation services covered?
Yes, the SCAN Allied plan includes a transportation benefit. Simply call to schedule rides to and from healthcare services, including doctor visits, dental appointments, and even the pharmacy to pick up a prescription. The number of covered rides will depend on the county you live in and there is no cost for these rides. Just call the phone number on the back of your SCAN ID card to schedule your rides. Learn more about how to use this benefit.
