Message from the CEO

The company with heart

SCAN CEO Sachin Jain.

When we announced in the last issue of SCAN Club that we were updating our look, we heard from someone who had first-hand knowledge of where the apple (which has been part of the SCAN image since the early days) came from. He explained it was a nod to both the adage “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” and the big band hit “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree (With Anyone Else but Me).” And for people of Medicare age in the early 1980s, these references made perfect sense.

FROM BIG BAND TO PUNK ROCK

But in 2024, that’s not the case. Today, our members are much more likely to have listened to the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and even some early punk rock in their formative years—many as they were marching for a cause or taking part in a protest. We get it! Because we have a cause, too. You may know the story already. But if not: In 1977, 12 rebellious seniors in Long Beach, California, petitioned the city. They wanted to form an organization that would make it easier for older adults to get the care and services they needed. Long Beach listened and agreed, and the Senior Care Action Network (SCAN) was born. We’ve been dedicated to keeping seniors healthy and independent ever since.

THE HEART OF OUR CAUSE

Our members have often told us “SCAN has heart.” And now, our logo reflects that sentiment. What hasn’t changed is our commitment to bringing you valuable benefits you can depend on year after year.

As you review your 2025 Annual Notice of Changes and consider your options for coverage, I’m certain that you won’t find a company that cares more.

Thank you for trusting us with your healthcare.

Wishing you a happy, healthy holiday season.

Sachin H. Jain, MD, MBA, FACP
