Benjamin K. Chu, MD, MPH, MACP has more than four decades of healthcare experience as a clinician, administrator and policy advocate. He passionately believes that the quality of patient care, patient safety and the patient experience are of the highest importance.
Dr. Chu retired as Senior Advisor from the consulting firm Manatt Health in January 2021. Throughout his impressive career, Dr. Chu has focused on physician integration, population health and health systems innovation to drive better outcomes and performance.
His many senior leadership positions include President and CEO of the Memorial Hermann Health System; Executive Vice President and Group President for the Kaiser Permanente Southern California and Georgia regions; President of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation; Senior Associate Dean at the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons; Vice President and Associate Dean at the NYU School of Medicine; and Acting Commissioner of Health for the New York City Department of Health.
Dr. Chu is active on the Boards of Directors for several not-for-profit organizations. He currently Chairs the National Committee for Quality Assurance Board; serves on the Geisinger Health System, Geisinger Health Plan and Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine Boards; and is a member of the Quality Committees of Columbia Memorial Health and Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital.
His past Board service includes Chairing the American Hospital Association Board of Trustees; the Commonwealth Fund Board of Directors; and the American Legacy Foundation Board of Directors.
Dr. Chu earned his medical degree at New York University and his master’s degree in public health from Columbia University. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Yale University.
